Glass Factory: History, Manufacturing Process & Modern Production
Introduction-
Glass manufacturing history came from Mesopotamia and Egypt around 300 3500 BCE. It is a metal working byproduct. Glass factory thrived from a luxury craft into a worldwide industry via major milestones.
Syrian artisans invented glass blowing in the first century BCE. Around the 13th century, the production of glass had been growing rapidly. In the 1950, the revolutionary float of glass processing was evolving.
The Ancient History (3500 BCE-1st Century CE):-
Egyptian and Mesopotamian archaeologists discovered rudimentary glass factories which were the oldest known factories.
Main Formation-
Glass making is a much more ancient craft than anyone could have imagined. It started way back in the 16th century BCE. Earlier, molten glass was shaped by the sand moles, and after its temperature got normal the sand was scraped out.
Glass Blowing Revolution – It has always been a mystery how tough material like glass is blown into such delicate designs.
And we all know Syrians are themselves a mystery and love creating mysteries. They made a blow pipe which craftsmen can blow through to make complex and feather light designs with the help of glass which were often a royal and luxury product but were also affordable to normal households.
The Revolution of Venice and Europe in between 13th to 18th centuries:-
In the Middle Ages, Murano Island of Venice was known as the glass making capital of Europe. In 1291, all grass furnaces of the city shifted to the island of Murano to prevent catastrophic fires and secure trade secrets properly.
Cristallo is a well-known transparent soda-lime glass that was developed by Venetian glassmakers with the help of a technique. And it is incredibly delicate and transparent for drinking vessels and mirrors.
Around 1674, a renowned English glassmaker George Ravenscroft invented lead oxide to add with a molten mixer of glass and then making clear, durable and highly refractive lead crystal glassware.
Mass Production of Glass in Modern Era:-
In the 19th century, mechanics developed machines for glass manufacturing automatically. Mr. Ashley introduced a semi-automatic machine which is capable of making 200 bottles an hour.
For windows, there are cylindrical processes. And flat glass production is required for windows. Through sheet-rolling machines, buildings can be transformed continuously.
Mr. Alastair Pilkington discovered the float glass process between 1953 to 1957. This technique involved pouring molten glass onto a shallow bed of molten tin.
Generally, the glass spreads to make an accurate flat, distortion-free sheet. It retains the standard level for the automotive glass and modern architectural glass Industry.
Manufacturing Process of Glass:-
There are numerous procedures of Glass manufacturing. Silica sand, soda ash and limestone were melted under the extreme heat until molten. This molten liquid is formed utilising different methods such as blowing or floating, for releasing inters stresses, this material can be cooled and cut into pieces for finished products.
