ICPL Sugar Factory Uttur: Karnataka’s Integrated Sugar & Power Plant
ICPL refers to the Indian Cane Power Limited. It is a massive agricultural processing hub in Karnataka, India. The facility processes raw sugarcane into refined sugar. Also, the facility is generating renewable electricity. Over the years, it has become a major local employer that helps farmers to turn crops into their cash.
The factory processes 24,000 tonnes of sugarcane on a daily basis while generating 83MW of clean power. It produces 300kl of the distillery products on a daily basis.
Key overview:
- Location: Uttur Village, Mudhol Taluk, Bangalkote District, Karnataka.
- Sugar production: It turns raw cane into refined or pure sugar with fully automatic machines.
- Co-generation: It burns sugarcane waste to create electricity. It sends 54 MW of extra power to the national power grid.
- Distillery: The factory is well equipped with a distillery that turns liquid plant waste into premium spirits.
Establishment!
ICPL was initialized in 2002 by Shri Shamnur Shivashankrappa. The factory was established in the Mudhol area of the Bangalkote district. It is working as an integrated Greenfield project.
Advantages of the ICPL sugar factory Uttur!
ICPL is a top sugar maker in the Bangalkote district. They use high-tech milling plants to crush sugarcane. Milling means squeezing the sugarcane to extract the sweet juice from it. The facility is well equipped with automated systems. It keeps our production fast and smooth.
- Green Energy and Power
ICPL processes a major biomass-based power generation plant. It generates 83 MW of power. The cogeneration plant burns the sugarcane waste, resulting in the production of steam or electricity. You can think of it as wood from old plants that is used to generate power. But the facility is not wasting or using the plant parts, turning the factory into a clean electricity generator.
During peak times, the facility is using some power internally and sends 54MW of surplus electricity to the national power grid. This helps in generating power for nearby towns or villages.
- Sugar production
The factory is well equipped with the latest tools and uses advanced technology to make high-quality white sugar. The process starts with washing the sugarcane, then the cane is crushed to get sweet juice.
Later, workers boil the juice to convert it into thick syrup. Next, the syrup is put into special machines to spin it well, which results in sugar crystals. Also, the factory is operating following all the strict rules to ensure the sugar is clean and safe to use in homes.
- Distillery operations
The facility is also running an advanced distillery plant that processes sugarcane byproducts into premium industrial ethanol and spirits. The facility is producing 300KL per day. The ethanol is mixed with standard gasoline with cleaner fuel, which results in lowering pollution.
- Helping the community
Another advantage of the ICPL sugar factory Uttur is that it plays an important part in the local economy. It buys sugarcane from thousands of farmers in the Bangalkote region. The factory also provides job opportunities to many local workers to perform various daily tasks.
Moreover, the facility is helping the environment by using all its waste products, like Molasses and bagasse, so useful things can be made out of them. It converts the waste into clean fuel and power.
In the end, it is a zero-waste facility that helps in making sugar while generating clean electricity and producing ethanol.
